User testing result on a wall

Here's something interesting. Fine Art graduate Gabriel Blido carried out market research, asking fellow Swedes what kind of art they appreciate. Based on the outcome, he painted this picture above (the pie-chart fold wasn't part of the actual picture, added to illustrate the nature of this project). I wonder how many of Gabriel's group of people would actually want this on their wall - even though they kind of asked for it?

This is such a smart project.

Whilst user testing is extremely important, your product shouldn't be based only on user feedback. Users have ideas for sure and I stress it is really important to listen to them, but they probably don't want to do the actual decision making or styling. Trust your instincts and learn from yours and others' expertise.

(More on this project here, in Swedish.)
